At
the heart of the Russ Foundation Project is the Children's
Home, committed to the care and education of twenty-four
or more, mostly female, children.
The
children, who are now aged between six and seventeen,
come from disadvantaged or homeless backgrounds. The
plight of many of these children results from the burden
of the dowry system which, though officially illegal,
continues to render female children a burden upon poor
families.
Though
it can only touch a few amongst the millions, Russ Foundation
provides a home and enhances the life-chances of many
young girls. Russ Foundation fights for the rights of
these children to live and grow to womanhood guaranteed
of education and training to equip them to survive.
